Hey there Amazing Fab Hair Viewers,
So, as most of you know I have been natural my entire life. So, about 3 years ago I went from LONG HAIR DON’T CARE to SHORT HAIR BEWARE. Now I am growing my hair back for my wedding day 6/11/11. Recently I have tried what Kourtney Kardashian does, and that is to add extensions to the back of my head to give it length and keep my front completely out. I have done this for almost 4 months, and I have seen growth. My back takes the longest to grow. I am going to keep this hair in until mid November I will have update then.

I got a touch up last Thursday. My hair is doing really well and I only needed a minor trim. Co-washing helped me to stretch to nine weeks. Using my split ender helped to keep my ends healthy. If winter goes well for me I should reach my last hair goal by my birthday in May.

Co-Washing

What is Co-washing? Co-washing hair means to use conditioner instead of shampoo to wash hair. One would think that skipping the shampoo step when washing hair would leave it dirty, but the truth is that there is a small amount of detergent in hair conditioner.

How do You Co-Wash Hair: To co-wash hair, you would wet your hair in the same way as you do before you wash it with shampoo. Then you need to massage a liberal amount of conditioner into the scalp. Massage the scalp for several minutes. Next, you would put a plastic cap on your hair and take your shower while you let the conditioner sit. Finally, rinse out the conditioner thoroughly.

What kind of conditioner should you use: According the every suggestion that I read on co-washing, cheap conditioner that costs only $1.00 a bottle will do just fine. Recommended brands include Suave and VO5. (I used Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship.)

How often should you co-wash your hair? Some people report co-washing their hair on a daily basis and styling hair while wet into an afro, or and Afro puff. Others report co-washing hair two or three times a week. People with very thick and long hair that takes hours to dry, co-wash their hair only once a week.

Should people who co-wash ever use shampoo. Shampoo should be used once every three of four washes. For people who co-wash their hair on a daily basis, shampoo should be used once a week. The reason for using shampoo occasionally is to remove any build up from the conditioner.

I bought some stuff for my hair recently and I want to share with you guys.

- I got a Split Ender(I want to work on keeping my ends healthy in between salon visits and minimize drastic cuts from scissor happy stylists. It only cuts off 1/4 of an inch of hair. I watched some youtube reviews.

-I bought Nioxin hair vitamins which I have taken before and I got pretty good results so I'm gonna to try them for six months and see what happens.

-I got a nine row Denman brush to help with detangling. I've been reading mixed reviews on using it for this purpose so I might just use it for blow drying.

- I bought a Babyliss Pro porcelain ceramic 2 1/2 plate flat iron from amazon.

- Last I got a bottle of Design Essentials Super Stimulating Conditioner and I remember a stylist used it on my hair when I was in school and i loved how my hair turned out. It was really soft and moisturized.

I will do reviews for everything next time I wash my hair.

Do you know what your hair type is? Knowing what hair type you have can make it easier for you to identify the correct products, hair styles, and styling techniques.

There is a four level system that was created by Andre Walker, former hair stylist to Oprah Winfrey. The categories are comprised of characteristics such as density, shaft thickness and curl pattern.

Type 4

According to Andre Walker, if your hair falls into the Type 4 category, then it is kinky, or very tightly curled. Generally, Type 4 hair is very wiry, very tightly coiled and very fragile. Similar to Type 3 hair, Type 4 hair appears to be coarse, but it is actually quite fine, with lots and lots of these strands densely packed together. Type 4 hair that is healthy won't shine, but it will have sheen. It will be soft to the touch and will pass the strand test with ease. It will feel silkier than it will look shiny.

Type 4 hairs looks tough and durable, but looks can be deceiving. If you have Type 4 hair, you already know that it is the most fragile hair around. There are two subtypes of Type 4 hair: Type 4A, tightly coiled hair that, when stretched, has an S pattern, much like curly hair; and Type 4B, which has a Z pattern, less of a defined curl pattern (instead of curling or coiling, the hair bends in sharp angles like the letter Z). Type 4A tends to have more moisture than Type 4B, which will have a wiry texture.

Type 3
When this type of hair is wet, it appears to be pretty straight. As it dries, the hair goes back to its curly state. When curly hair is wet it usually straightens out. As it dries, it absorbs the water and contracts to its curliest state. Humidity tends to make this type of curly hair even curlier, or even frizzier. Type 3 hair has a lot of body and is easily styled in its natural state, or it can be easily straightened with a blow-dryer into a smoother style. Healthy Type 3 hair is shiny, with soft, smooth curls and strong elasticity. The curls are well-defined and springy.

Andre defines two subtypes of curly hair. First, there is type 3A hair which is very loosely curled and usually very shiny with big curls. The shorter the hair is, the straighter it gets. The longer the hair is the more defined the curl. Then, there is type 3B hair which has a medium amount of curl to tight corkscrews. It's not unusual to see a mixture of these types existing on the same head. Curly hair usually consists of a combination of textures, with the crown being the curliest part. Lastly there is a type 3C, is hair type that is not in Andre Walker's book, but many people suggest that it should be. This type of hair can be described as tight curls in corkscrews. The curls can be either kinky, or very tightly curled, with lots and lots of strands densely packed together.

Type 2
A relatively unusual type, wavy hair tends to be coarse, with a definite S pattern to it. There are three Type 2 subtypes: A- Fine /thin, B -medium-textured, and C - thick and coarse. Type 2A is very easy to handle, blowing out into a straighter style or taking on curlier looks with relative ease. Types 2B and 2C are a little more resistant to styling and have a tendency to frizz.

Summer Hair Plan

I decided to take a break from using direct heat for summer. So I'm going to be doing braid outs frequently throughout summer. I'm going to use this method.

Haircare for Swimming

Chlorine can damage the hair shaft, leaving hair rough, dry and straw-like. Why? Hair’s outer layer, or cuticle, is composed of dozens of inter-lapping layers. In healthy, undamaged hair, these layers stay flat and smooth. They reflect light and give hair a shiny, mirror-like surface. However, when hair is exposed to chlorinated water, chlorine penetrates the hair shaft and opens up the cuticle. This causes the layers to buckle or rupture, and no longer lie in a smooth pattern. Hair is unable to reflect light, and does not appear shiny. Once the cuticle is disrupted, hair quickly loses moisture, and it can feel dehydrated and brittle.

Tips

1. Rinse hair with water and saturate hair with conditioner before swimming. Wet hair will not absorb as much chlorine. Conditioner will act as a barrier to chlorine.

2. Braid and pull back your hair before getting in the pool. I like to tuck mine into a bun. This allow less of your hair to be exposed to the water. Protect hair with swim cap.

3. Wash and condition hair right after swimming. Use a chlorine removing shampoo for swimmers or a clarifying shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner. Spritz hair with leave in conditioner afterward. Last, moisturize and oil hair.
4. Add intensive conditioning treatments monthly throughout summer to strengthen hair.

How to Retain Hair Growth

My hair will never be as long as yours my hair doesn't grow..... Wrong!!!! Your hair is always growing but the reason you might not see progress in length is because you haven't been able to retain any length. Techniques that can help you to retain length are the following.

1. Protective styling- Taking a break from direct heat. ( sew ins or braids anything that will hide your hair and will be low maintenance.

2. Bunning- Keeping your hair up and

3. Moisturizing- Paying close attention to your ends.

4. Improper diet/ Dehydration- Internal habits can greatly affect what is going on, on the outside. Such as skin, hair, and nails.

5. Relaxing to frequently- Stretch relaxers to at least eight weeks or to what you feel your hair can handle without breakage.

Tips to Battle Winter Dryness

4. Essential Oils- Peppermint, Rosemary, and Ylang ylang.
5. Steam Treatment- Conditioning treatment done at home or in the salon with a deep conditioner and a hair steamer for maximum absorption and deep penetration of conditioner to the scalp.
6. Rinse Conditioner with cold water (Hot water rinses away all the moisturizing properties in the conditioner).
7. Add Flax Seed Oil, Fish Oil, or an Omega 3, 6, 9 Oil to your regimen. (Can be purchased at any health store or Wal-Mart.)
8.Wear a hat (non-wool) to protect your hair from environmental elements.
9. Increase moisturizing routine- Winter is the time to really focus on your ends. I currently primarily apply coconut oil on my ends every night.

Alternative Straightening Methods for Naturals

Brazillian Keratin Treatment:Your hair is straightened with the active ingredient keratin, a protein very like one of the components of human hair. Keratin works to "naturally" straighten the hair. Fans of the treatment claim that it actually strengthens the hair since keratin is so similar to hair's natural protein.
Expect a keratin treatment to take at least a couple of hours to complete, from beginning to end. Expect to pay anywhere between $150 - $350. A stylist applies a keratin solution to your hair, much as she would hair color. Hair is blown dry and then sealed with extreme temperatures of up to 450 degrees. The hot iron is required to seal the formula into the hair's cuticle. A keratin treatment gradually washes away. You'll notice your hair's natural curl return over time, anywhere from six weeks to a few months. To get the longest lasting results, use shampoos that have a neutral pH.
What to Expect:
For the first several days after the treatment, you won't be able to wash your hair or get it wet.

Caution:
One of the biggest concerns with a keratin treatments is that some of the brands it's marketed under contain formaldehyde (yes, the same solution used to embalm dead bodies). Some of these formaldehyde containing formulas aren't approved by the FDA. Others may tell you that they're formaldehyde-free, but still contain trace amounts (minimal enough to legally claim them formaldehyde-free). Also, 450 degrees is extreme heat to place on the hair, especially since the flat iron has to make several passes to thoroughly seal in the treatment. If you're pregnant or nursing, you should not have a keratin treatment.

Coconut Milk:Squeeze matured coconut until the milk fills up a glass. Mix with lime juice. Keep the mixture in the refrigerator until the top becomes creamy. Bad Ingredients to Stay Away From....

1. Alcohol- The bad ones are SD alcohol, SD alcohol 40, Alcohol denat, Propanol, Propyl alcohol and Isopropyl alcohol. All of these can be very drying to hair and can cause breakage.

The Good: Fatty Alcohols (The good ones are Lauryl alcohol, Cetyl alcohol, Myristyl alcohol, Stearyl alcohol, Cetearyl alcohol and Behenyl alcohol [docosanol].) Normally found in conditioners and tend to help with moisturizing and detangling.

2. Mineral Oil/Petroleum
Coats your hair instead of penetrating the shaft so it offers no moisturizing benefits. What this does is actually dry out the hair because no moisture (water and other moisturizing oils) cannot get through the mineral oil barrier. Mineral oil will cause build up, but the real problem is simply that it is drying. Many products have mineral oil because it is cheap.

3. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
A cheap, foaming and thickening agent that strips our hair of moisture and causes skin and scalp irritation. 95% of all hair shampoos contain this ingredient or one of its derivatives.

Good Hair Movie Review

The Good: I think the movie was a good way to discuss a sensitive issue that is normally hidden in the black community. It was interesting to find out the process of making relaxer, and how weaves start as a sacrificial offering in India. I liked the intro showing the progression of black hairstyles over time. I liked the discussion about kiddie perms and mothers who are relaxing as early as 2 years of age due to frustration and not knowing how to handle their child's hair. The discussion about the hair industry was very disturbing. It's sad that something that is predominately for black people is barely even owned by our own. Reverend Al Sharpton had a lot of deep things to say about the exploitation and oppression that we bring to ourselves due to our hair choices. The whole weave discussion was interesting because I never really had to deal with it before. I didn't know people went through that much to maintain a weave.

The Bad: At my theater, it was shown in a small room with like 40 or 50 people so it was loud in there. I thought he spent way too much time at the hair show. I have seen Tears, Shears and Beauty on Bet J and I knew all of the stylists. I think it would have been good for him to discuss the root of the good hair issue. The effects of slavery and the issues that black women have with hair texture.
He should have included more naturals in the interviews. I think there were two in the movie, and natural hair is a really popular trend right now. I think his message kind of came off as all black women are wearing weaves or spending a bunch of money on their hair or their boyfriends or husbands are. I also didn't like the scene where a group of high school girls are discussing their hair and there was a girl with natural hair and two girls told her that they thought companies wouldn't want to hire her because her afro would stand out and she wouldn't look professional. I felt bad for her. I think companies are becoming more diversified and accepting then they used to be, so it isn't as big of an issue as it has been in the past. Some of the jokes were a little extra at times, especially the long time spent on sex with black women and their hair. It had some laughs but not worth seeing in the theater. If you been waiting to see the movie just wait until it comes out on dvd .

Stupid Hair Comments, Questions and Weave Checking

I watched Oprah Live! this past Friday. It got me to thinking about all the moments when people have asked me interesting questions, pulled my hair, or just said something really dumb to me about my hair.

I wore micro braids the first two 1 and 1/2 years of college. I wore braids because it was easy to take care of in college and I didn't have a car to go to a salon and I didn't go home often. Before this, I had a bad color my senior year high school and my hair was over processed and I ended up growing out my hair by wearing braids and cut off all the relaxed ends. Spring semester sophomore year I decided I wanted to be relaxed again. I came back to school my hair was probably shoulder length.

-So I'm standing in the lobby of my dorm and this girl comes up to me and says, Girl I thought you was bald!"
I basically gave her a wth look and told her no I just liked to wear braids and walked away.

- I made the mistake of telling one friend that vitamins helped my hair to grow. In reality, they did give me a nice boost, but, as you all can see, it's not a quick fix; I do plenty of other things as well. Every time I saw her all I heard about were those d*** vitamins. Drove me crazy. :-)

- I purposely got a sew in one semester of college because I lived out of state and I didn't trust anyone in that state to do my hair, the water was very hard, and I didn't want my hair to break off. A friend, at the time, commented to me that she wouldn't get a sew in for her hair cause of the whole no washing thing. ( Which you can purchase dry shampoos btw) So after I took mine out and I came back to school my hair was probably about almost bra strap length she told me she was going to get a sew in. (Go figure)

- Away at school, in the middle of no where, I went to Charlotte Russe to get some shoes. I was wearing my hair down and it had just been washed and flat ironed. A caucasian salesgirl asked my how do I get my hair so straight? I responded with a flat iron (duh!).

- A guy told me that I must be mixed cause my hair was so long and then tried to tell me that black women can't grow long hair. Never talked to him again

- At my old job, a co-worker asked me if this was all my hair and I said yes. She tried to tell me I must have Indian or White in my family for my hair to be so long.

- At family dinners, there's always one relative that asks me if I'm wearing a weave and these are relatives that see me all the time!

- Last Easter during the welcome to the visitors at churcH I hugged a lady and I thought her ring got stuck in my hair but NO, she was checking for tracks!

Basically there is a general assumption that if you're black and your hair is long you must be mixed or black women can't grow hair or have healthy hair.

Weave Checking- I don't understand why people do this if it is a weave why do you care and if it isn't one why try to say I must be mixed or say I must have some pieces in. What right do you have to put your hand in someone's hair to see if it's a weave.

Cold Weather Hair Care

1. Condition, condition, condition! Dry heat and cold weather sap hair of moisture. Because dry hair breaks easily, the most important thing you can do during the cold months is deep condition regularly.

2. Avoid using heated appliances as much as possible. Using a blow dryer, curling iron or flat iron dries hair out even more in the winter.

3. Cover up! If you are going to be outside, especially in extreme temperatures or wind, be sure to protect your hair from the elements. Wear a satin or silk scarf under your winter hat to preserve the style as well as prevent direct contact with the harsh material most hats are made of.

4. Remember that your hair can be more dry and brittle in winter, and can result in much more delicate. Comb hair gently with a wide-tooth comb a least a couple times a day to prevent tangles.

5. Humidifiers are useful during this season because they add moisture to your environment, hydrating your home's air.

6. Give yourself a hot oil treatment at least once a month. This will put some of the moisture back in your hair that the cold, dry winter months robs from us.

7.Take heat protection a step further and wear silk on your hair indoors and in the car since artificial heaters stress your hair too.

8.Use heavier moisturizers like butters and cremes. also deep condition more frequently, because the cold weather can cause a lot of dryness that leads to breakage.

9.Protect your ends. Whatever your current moisturizing routine is double it, and using satin pillowcases and hair wraps.

8.Add oils to your d/c for a moisture boost.

9. Wear hair up when wearing your coat. Put your hair up in a claw clip while you are wearing your coat. When you get to where you are going take it out and let your hair down.

I am frequently asked how I maintain my natural hair. I am 23 years old, and for 21 years I was the, “Long hair don’t care girl.” Now, I am, “The short hair beware gir,l”...lol. I do feel that when I had long hair it was easier to maintain. However, I love my short layered bob, and I won’t EVER go back to long hair.

For both hair styles I did/do go see my stylist every two weeks. However, with long hair I could sometimes make it four weeks without seeing my stylist, and it would still look fabulous. My stylist plays a major role in keeping my hair healthy and manageable. She regularly cuts, trims, and conditions my hair. All my friends make fun of me because when I am in the house my hair is wrapped, ALWAYS. This, in my opinion, helps my hair last longer and not putting heat on my hair often.

I have found that regularly going to see my stylist every two weeks, keeping my hair wrapped, and taking care of basic hair duties: trimming, conditioning, and cuts, drinking plenty of water helps my natural hair stay FABULOUS :-)

How many times have you been in your stylist's chair and he or she has said, "Well if you let me cut it, it's gonna grow." Wrong! Big huge lie! Your hair is always growing, for some perhaps at a slower rate than others. Cutting hair off of your ends isn't going to magically make the hair out of your scalp grow any faster. I've been to way too many scissor happy stylists over the years and had bangs cut that I didn't ask for and layers that I didn't ask for. Just because they wanted my hair to look a certain way.
You definitely shouldn't have to get a trim every time you get your hair done, and most African American hair stylists usually give trims with every relaxer service. Unless you have some major damage, see through ends, or split ends, you should not be walking out with a hair cut (unless you wanted one).

For the last couple of years, I've been getting a cut every relaxer, which is probably every 9 to 10 weeks. Right now, I'm working on taking care of my ends so I can go longer without trimming and retain more length. I'm not subscribing to this cut it to grow it mentality. What do you think about this? Tyra Hair Reveal

I watched Tyra's hair reveal the other day. I guess most people are curious at some point about what someones hair looks like if they consistently wear weaves all the time. I wasn't really intrigued by it until she announced she was going to reveal her real hair for her season premiere.

The Reveal
I assumed that because she has money that she should have access to the best hair stylist and her hair would be in pretty good condition. Her hair is obviously thin at the crown and I'm not sure if many people could be able to combat that with years of wearing weaves with relaxed hair. My hair is fine and my edges are thin from years of wearing micro braids so I can see why her hair would be thin. I guess you have to factor in the stress of modeling. I'm pretty sure when she was doing runway shows healthy hair care wasn't a high priority at the time.

Her stylist rubbed me the wrong way. If I'm not mistaken, I think I heard him say she had a relaxer and a color service done at the same time. Which is something you should never do. Why did he wait until she had three inches of damaged hair to cut it off? Why didn't he start trimming the damaged hair as soon as he saw it? A lot of people think that if you have a weave you don't have to do anything to your hair. That's far from the truth. You still need to moisturize your hair and deep condition your hair each time the hair is taken out.

I'm definitely not an expert and never claimed to be one. She said she is going to be switching throughout the season between her hair and the weave. So I just hope that from this point on she and her stylist start to implement a healthier regimen and she is able to maintain it. Kudos to her for having the courage to show her real hair. Many celebs wouldn't even dare to show their real hair.

Hair Update + Dominican Conditioners

I washed my hair today. I'm about eight weeks post relaxer now and I will get a touch up on the weekend of the 11th. I have about a inch of new growth so I used my Keracare Detangling shampoo so my hair would not tangle up during washing. I conditioned with Humectress mixed with a little Miss Keys 10 in one.

Dominican Conditioner= Developed to provide maximum moisture, increase volume, add shine and keep your hair strong. For relaxed hair, these products can help with dryness, breaking and split hair. Women with natural hair will discover softer hair and an easier time detangling hair.

Healthy Hair tip: Moisturize and Seal

Moisturizing – Applying a moisture based product to dry hair without washing it out. You can use a water-based or cream based moisturizer 1-2x per day. This helps to prevent breakage and increase elasticity in the hair.

*I use Elasta QP mango butter. You can also try : Carol's Daughter Healthy Hair Butter and Ors Olive Oil
* I also rub a dime size amount of moisturizer on my ends every night or every other night a couple of weeks after a touch up. It stops dryness and keeps your ends strong so you do not get any split ends.

Sealing – Using a natural oil to lock in the moisture after you’ve moisturized the hair i.e. Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Safflower Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil. By using an oil over the moisturizer will allow your hair to stay moisturized longer.

Frequency- Depends on your hair and what it needs. Some people do it everyday others a few times a week. My hair is pretty dry so I have to do it often.

Technique- I have seen people part in sections or just rub the product in their hands and then run it over their hair. It just depends on what is best for you.

College Hair Care Tips

1. Find a good hair stylist- You do not want to be stuck in the middle of no where without a decent stylist. Look for friendly upperclassmen females with nice hair that are willing to suggest some places to you. Ask girls that were raised in the town where to go.

2. Don't rely on friends to do your hair-Unless they are licensed stylist they probably have no idea what they're doing and it will most likely lead to damage.

3. Eat healthy- Living in the dorms means a cornucopia of fast food. Try to get in some fruits and veggies.

4. Try protective styling- If you don't have a car and you will be far from home , I recommend some type of braids or sew in throughout the semester. You can avoid harsh hair practices or times of neglect when you can't find a stylist. Protective styling is a great way to help retain length and get a break from heat and chemicals.

5. Water Filter- Most college campuses typically have hard water. I suggest deep conditioning or investing in a filter system if you live off campus.

6. Buy bulk and shop sales- Watch for sales so you can buy liter sizes of shampoo and conditioner to take to campus. You don't want to have to ask people to take you to the store and most of the time they're stingy with their car anyway, and it will last you the whole year.

If you find yourself stuck in a hair rut vitamins and supplements can be a great way to kick start your healthy hair journey and are excellent for your overall health.

As always consult your physician or pharmacist before starting any new vitamins or supplements. My sister is a pharmacist so she approves everything I take. Multivitamin: Everyone needs to be on a good multivitamin. You need a vitamin that contains at least 100% of the most of the recommended daily nutrients. Your outside is a mirror for what is going on, on the inside. If your hair is dry and brittle, or rough you are probably deficient in some of the nutrients needed for your body to thrive. I like Centrum Complete Multivitamin it can be found at Walmart.
Flaxseed Oil:

Omega 3 fatty acids in flax seed oil can contribute to healthy hair growth and nail growth. Use of flax seed can benefit those suffering from brittle nails and dry hair.

~~Long~~ Short Hair Don't Care

It has been said for many years that most men prefer women with long hair. Starting with the Halle Berry cut in the early nineties and most recently the Rihanna haircut. Short hair is Definitely making a bold statement. The question one has to ask is, will going from long to short mean being viewed as less attractive to men? Short hair has been a big trend the past few seasons. Over the past couple of months I have heard complaints from friends that men told them they liked their hair better long, or men complaining about women suddenly cutting their hair from long to short.

I think that it shouldn't matter whether it's long or short and men should become more flexible when it comes to beauty standards.

Hair Update

I washed my hair tonight. I'm currently four weeks post relaxer, and I'm planning on stretching for eight weeks depending on how much growth I get and how fast I get it.
I used my Nexxus Therappe shampoo, and I deep conditioned with Humectress conditioner mixed with Vatika hair oil for ten minutes with heat five without.

A couple of months ago I bought Giovanni Smooth as Silk Deep Conditioner from Target and my stylist used it and didn't like it as a conditioner. I read on a hair forum that a lot of ladies like to use as a leave in. I tried it tonight, and I really loved it. I normally don't use a leave in and it left my hair very detangled and soft. My hair is fine textured and gets very tangled during washing. After the leave in I apply Una Designing Oil Non Oil and air dry. I may or may not blow dry it and my sister flat irons it for me I usually moisturize with Elasta QP Mango Butter and seal with Carols Daughter Tui oil or Mimosa Hair Honey. Last time I relaxed, I had to get an inch trimmed off due to split ends so right now I'm working on babying my ends so I don't have to trim next on my next touch up day.

Every time I go on the blogs I find a new pic floating around of celeb with a new haircut. Sometimes it's a cut similar to a style someone else has been rocking for a long time. Are these girls really trying to be trend setters are or they just trying to stay relevant. You see the pics they put up on twitter or they conveniently get the paps to get that perfect hair shot. I really think the whole shaved haircut is ridiculous but if your going to jack somebodies cut you should do it better then they did it. It just screams pay attention to me my talent isn't enough. How far we people go just to get attention? I hope I don't see girls around my neighborhood walking around with half shaved heads. SMH

Old Hair Habits vs. New Hair Habits

Sometimes you have to do different things to get different results. The hair regimen I have now is completely different from what I did when I was younger. My hair habits in previous years mostly consisted of things that I was always told to do that were not allowing me to retain any length.

Do
1.Use ouchless rubber bands
2.Use seamless combs
3.Try salon quality hair care lines.
4 Denman Brushes
5.Moisturize hair to protect ends and seal with a light oil.
6.Use a *silk hair scarf only*or silk pillowcases
7.Trim as needed
8.Use a ceramic flat iron
9.Use a ceramic blow dryer
10.Try doing your hair your self or going to
Upscale hair salons.
*Bonus- Try roller setting and protective styling to minimize direct heat usage.

Don’t
1.Use regular rubber brands
2.Use regular combs- rips through your hair and causes breakage.
3.Only use drugstore hair care products.
4.Use regular Brushes(unless they have soft bristles)
5.Use hair grease- weighs hair down, does not absorb well and can cause build up.
6.Use any old scarf that is laying around the house.
7.Trimming every appointment- unless you have split ends, you will never see any length if you are constantly cutting. The popular myth is cutting will make hair grow- Wrong! Hair grows from your scalp not from your ends.
8.Use stove irons
9.Use a regular blow dryer
10.Go to unprofessional salons that require all day visits and have stylists that provide bad service.
*Bonus- Using direct heat on a consistent basis is damaging. Give your hair a rest.
